Passion, interest, desire, motivation and enthusiasm. .. call it "X". But without it, sooner or later, abandon the practice of tai chi. So tell me, is not worth having this and care as care for a seedling in a container, to grow and give fruit? What moves you to practice tai chi?, What motivates you?, Why do you practice tai chi? What are the reasons that led you to learn? Think about it ...

Sometimes I'm spellbound, rapt, watching the new students, beginners, and I wonder what will have been practicing tai chi? Some reflected in his manner, as to act and to move a special interest, are eager to learn. I remind myself in my principles. That is when I discover, somewhat surprised, that this enthusiasm to learn more of the past has changed. With years of practice my motivation has changed. AAAAHHH! interesting motivation can change .... Curious, no?.

Yes, over the years I learned some things. I started practicing tai chi to learn how to defend myself. So we pay much attention to the whole issue of self-defense techniques. Furthermore, she wanted to be strong and to this end, the muscles trained with all kinds of strengthening exercises, abdominals, lower back, push-ups ... etc. Besides going to the gym, trained on my own out of hours in the park behind my house to wear "handle."

Looking back in time, going over my motives, I see that after this first stage came next. The more quiet and restrained. My biggest motivation was, after some injuries in my career as an athlete, trying to maintain health, fitness and stay a little fit. Nothing to do with my previous. I kept practicing tai chi (this time), but focusing more attention on the perfection of the posture and movements. My training became a bit more "internal." In addition to the correct position, I was interested to learn well in coordinating the breath with each movement and the exact implementation the body of the opponent of the various techniques of attack and defense.

Now I see that after this second stage, came third. My interest is especially focused on creativity. I sought to make "my own tai chi" using the experience gained by years of practice. Merges several disciplines: the tai chi (Yang and Chen styles), the kung-fu (Jen You Kuen style) and Aikido (only some concepts.) The result of this mixture of martial arts styles is far from being complex or complicated, the opposite. Always look for (and still do) simplicity. I think it difficult, easy, and it is difficult to precisely make it easy.

Today, I am in a phase different from above. Now my interest is focused on energy. Seeking always apply The Law of Least Effort to each and every one of the postures and techniques of tai chi that I do without losing one iota of efficiency. In addition, I have expanded the range of tai chi to other areas of my life. I want to transfer what they learned by doing the most development activities that took place in my daily life, from writing or wash the dirty dishes to the explanations I give to my students in class.

Gradually, my tai chi has become more domestic, softer, more comfortable and personalized, but also more efficient. Slowly but surely the practice of tai chi has been transformed into something more than a defense system or method to maintain health, has become a philosophy of life in a way to learn to live with myself and others and learn to cope in this life in a more conscious and satisfying.

Therefore, the motivation, interest and desire of tai chi has been changed and fluctuated over my entire career in the martial arts world. This is my story, but I'm sure you have your own. Stop and think and ask yourself the following: your reasons or motives for practicing tai chi sufientes force do you have to imagine yourself to practicing the old man / to? Good question, eh?

"Tai Chi is an art for life."
