The poet Mark Strand's visit to Caracas was marked by several acts which were not given enough publicity. Almost by stealth, I learned that would be on Sunday 3 April at the Hotel Caracas Palace, accompanied by several of our poets to have a talk and hear the reading of some of his poems. The call made for 11 am suffered some delays and began entering the meeting almost 12 m. The tall figure, slender with blue eyes behind the wide-rimmed glasses, in contrast to the ash that is in his already thinning hair and his warm voice, accent perfectly understandable, necessary cause admiration even without knowing his extensive resume, including having been named poet laureate by the Library of U.S. Congress, the Bollingen Prize, the Wallace Stevens Award, the Pulitzer Prize, in addition to serving as Professor at the University of Columbia.
guest presentation was given by Margaret Sayers Peden, who says modestly confessed to being a "professional insecurity." He reminded us how close is the poet Strand Stevens, and that the craft of writing is exerted by deleting the weight off humble happiness. We talked about how Strand dazzles with words that do not shine, to see the poem as an artifact that inexhaustible ultimately and despite declaring Strand would not write poetry, it never lets go of his subjects. Then in strict alphabetical order were the poets Edda Armas, Igor Barreto, Patricia Guzman, Leonardo PadrĂ³n, Yolanda Pantin reading the poems translated by Beverly Perez Rego, the book "Nothing happens," after listening to the voice of the author. So double melody heard in the poems Letter To her, the arrival of the light, I chose my father and the return of the great poet.
I would copy the final verse of The return of the great poet:

You tell me out there anyway, what is poetry?
Can someone die without even a little?
Can someone die without even a little?
and I ask to wait in vain for the return of Mark srand?
